Characters Name: Ruby
Age: 13
Canon: Pokemon Adventures
Canon Point: After the Emerald chapters
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: N/A, due to him being a literal child. Though he leans towards heterosexual if his past crushes are any indication.

History: Ruby's history on Bulbapedia
Appearance: A convenient collage of Ruby's main looks. Needs glasses, but only wears them on occasion or if he's sewing. Typically wears a hat that many mistake for his hair in order to hide the two large scars on his forehead he received fighting a dragon when he was six.
Personality:

Ruby is a young boy from a world where fantastic creatures called Pokemon exist—and a world where it is the norm for children to go off on adventures with them. Typically when kids leave with their Pokemon, it's to fight established leaders of Pokemon Gyms and prove themselves to be the strongest around. However, though Ruby is the son of a Gym Leader himself, his goal is something quite different. What he's after is to participate in Pokemon Contests, a showcase of the most beautiful and appealing Pokemon around. Because of this, Ruby holds the title of “Charmer” among the Pokedex Holders (a small group of individuals who own a device called a Pokedex, and excel when it comes to training Pokemon), and truly lives up to his title.

To put it lightly, Ruby is dramatic. To the way he moves to the way he speaks tends portray his emotions is over the top, especially for things he finds enjoyable or is proud of. He does everything and greets everyone with a flourish—to the point making up an introduction for each of his Pokemon individually (as well as their attacks) no matter if he's in the middle of a contest or in the middle of being attacked by someone with the intention to kill. He's very likely to exclaim out loud and proud if he finds something ascetically pleasing—or more often than not, be driven to tears by the beauty of something.

Beauty in general is very important to Ruby, and he can be very shallow when it comes to things that lack that important trait. He's tossed away opportunities or Pokemon just because he finds them unappealing—and finds little point in dealing with anything that's not up to his standards. Exerting himself, sweating, dirt, or things he deems gross or barbaric are things he avoids like a plague, and it's a matter of twisting his arm to get him to do anything outside of the realm of his interests. He would much rather do things that are, again, beautiful. Ruby has a high standard or living, so he'll stubbornly sew his own clothes or cook a full gourmet meal in the middle of the wilderness if that's what it takes to keep up his way of life. For as much puts up resistance when he's asked adapt, he's good at stubbornly making any situation into one that fits his expectations.

Shallowness isn't the only thing that comes with his love of aesthetics. Ruby can also be condescending, selfish, and downright rude. It's not even always on purpose (always being a key phrase). He speaks his mind no matter if it's in good taste or not. He'll do a good deed while low-key insulting the person he's helping—he's made someone a completely new outfit while also telling them that maybe they should take a shower before putting on the clothes because they are absolutely filthy.

In the same vein however, Ruby is also kind. He knows, and has learned that beauty isn't always about what's on the outside. The boy might insult you while helping you out of your troubling situation, but it's not like he is completely opposed to going out of his way to help people. He's prone to being self-sacrificing, often telling lies to people or keeping the truth hidden in order to take on all the burden of a situation himself. For a boy who seeks out so much praise and acknowledgment, he's very private about doing actual good deeds.

Though he doesn't like to fight, Ruby is actually extremely skilled at it. He'll protest loudly about it publicly (he's got appearances to keep up, after all!), but if he's backed into a corner or finds a friend in need then a completely other side of him shows it's face. This side is calculating, feisty, and aggressive—complete with angry outburst and ugly displays of temper. Though this is why he's so very keen on keeping this side of him hidden; it doesn't fit with the image that he wants for himself. If Ruby is pushed to the point of having to fight, then he usually does so secretly and with no witnesses to the encounter. If any evidence of his skill is found out, he's also very quick to deny it or change the subject. He once made a person very important to him cry because of his aggressive nature in battle, so he works very hard to make sure the “Ruby” that people see is nothing like the Ruby he was at that time.

He's got a fearlessness inside of him that allows him to face on a lot of situations that would make other people balk. Of course stage fright isn't an issue for him because he loves the spotlight, but even in more dire straights he acts completely oblivious to possible consequences. An example of this would again to back to fighting. He'll stare down a creature that could easily kill him and treat them like like someone would a harmless pet, making calm remarks about their looks or abilities. Though it keeps him from panicking or being irrational in a fight, it's also not always the best approach to danger—after all, he did end up with two large scars on his forehead from when he faced down a dragon Pokemon when he was young due to this nature.

Ruby has a complicated relationship with his father, Norman. On one hand, there is a strong part of Ruby who wants to emulate his father in his strength, and one of his greatest fears is his father not recognizing his abilities or training him. On another hand, he resents his father for his absence in his life—as his father spent most of his childhood away to train himself. He wants his father to recognize his abilities, but also doesn't want to be like his father. Ruby likes to call his father a battle maniac, and was very keen on being able to rub his Pokemon Contest victories in his face.

Another person he has a very complicated relationship with is his rival, Sapphire. The young girl loves to battle as much as Ruby loves contests, so the two of them butt heads more often than not. He calls her barbaric and dirty, and she calls him prissy and girly. Though the two of them bicker and put up resistance at first with being called “friends” or even being associated with each other, they are actually very dear to each other. Ruby often goes out of his way to keep her safe, and worries about her well being over most people. He had once even admitted to having feelings for her—but now will claim that he doesn't remember anything on the matter.

Overall, he's a complicated boy with an eye for beauty, and wants nothing more than to prove this to everyone else.

Abilities:
✅ Ruby has a lot of “domestic” skills, since his pursuit of beauty is self-actuated. If it deals with clothing and design, he is skilled at it—from sewing, alteration, or pattern making, to make-up and accessories; if it deals with outside beauty, then he can do it.
✅ Considering he has a photography book of all his Pokemon's greatest accomplishments, and carries around a camera with him to catch each moment of their lives, he's also pretty skilled at taking photos.
✅ Cooking is another domestic skill that he excels at—not just on a basic level either. He's able to cook for all his Pokemon based on their natures and favorite flavors, so personalizing a meal is no problem for him.
✅ Despite resistance to exerting himself, Ruby is physically strong. He was able to hoist a grown man out of the ocean after all. This goes hand-in-hand with his extraordinary skill at Pokemon battling, which is physically and mentally demanding where he's from.
✅ Ruby is also very observant. He can tell the nature and personality of any Pokemon just by looking at it. With people however, this skilled is somewhat marred by his own ego.

This is an EMERGENCY!

[Okay, it really wasn't an emergency, but to him it was urgent enough to warrant the dramatic language. He had run out of options, so he had fled to the promising field of knowledge that was the network.]

I'm really in a bind here, and I would love to do some renovations, but sadly I don't have the money! And going to any sort of parental figure in my situation is out of the question.

[Read: they would be useless and not understand how important this is. Or worse, try to enforce their own lack of style into it.]

So, does anyone have any suggestions in ways that someone young could make some money? Or better yet, have extra cloth or furnishing lying around that they no longer want? Anything that isn't the default will do.

[At least if he had some spare cloth, maybe he could reupholster...he's been close to using his own spare clothes as material more than once. But he would rather use proper material, which would be easier to buy if he actually had money.]

I'm also willing to do commissions for cash since I'm desperate, so if any of you out there are wanting a personal consultant, please give me a reply! Let me fix up your wardrobe for you!

Third Person:
This had been the fourth time Ruby had walked into his room. The fourth time and...ugh! Everything about it just irked him. The two beds on either side of the room—the two sides of the room being identical in the most boring of ways—the plain white walls, the bland furnishings...even the clothes in his closet were frustrating.

It wasn't that anything was wrong. But nothing was right either.

Everything was boring! Bland! Typical! Sure, if this wasn't the place he was supposed to call home, he might find it quaint and amusing. But this was supposed to be his stuff. And his room. But nothing about this had been his, or felt like his. It looked like it had just been pulled out of a catalogue for living that any old schmuck off the street could have.

His foot was tapping furiously as he stared at these walls again, taunting him in all their dull glory.

“...agh!” This time his displeasure was vocal, ringing out of his open door before he stomped through the house. “Doesn't anyone care how plain this place looks? How frustrating it is?” Was he hoping to be heard? Probably, with the way he was loudly proclaiming his displeasure through the hallways. “Don't we have any paint? Or wallpaper, or..or something to make it not look like a prison?”

Ruby's tirade had led him to the kitchen—a place just as plain and boring as his own room. Plain and boring...everything was the same! Another huge huff of air his breathed in defiance, and he sits in one of the chairs around the kitchen chairs with the same amount of huffiness. The more he stayed in this house, the more everything about it became suffocating. “Don't we have anything that can fix this?”
